Winter Tree Identification Walk – Holmes Educational State Forest

If you enjoy spending time outside during winter and wonder what kinds of trees you are seeing, we have just the program for you. Carrie Blair, Master Naturalist, and Master Gardener will lead a series of winter hikes in Brevard area forests and greenspaces where she will discuss methods of identifying trees without their leaves. She will focus on the physical characteristics of trees including bark, form, branch pattern, buds, leaf scars, and seeds.

In case of inclement weather, the program will be held at the Cooperative Extension Center Conference Room, 106 E. Morgan St. Brevard, NC.

Participants will meet at the hike location parking lot no later than 1:00 p.m. on the day of the hike. Due to the number of attendees, dogs will not be allowed on the hikes. And don’t forget to dress for the weather.

The hikes will be appropriate for those with any level of experience in winter tree id and will not be strenuous. Participation is limited to 15 people, age 16 and up.
